Where to find the best coffee in Buenos Aires, Argentina

por Postcards from IvI

Buenos Aires has a great coffee culture. People just love to sit down and slowly drink their coffee while talking with a friend, reading the newspaper or studying. I think coffee is not just a drink for us but a lifestyle. As a local and coffee lover I’m greatful that the speciality coffee movement has arrived to the city a few years ago. Each day, there are more coffee shops in the city where you can have high quality coffee. In this post, I’ll tell you where to have the best coffee in Buenos Aires.

To stay up to date on the best coffee spots in Buenos Aires, I recommend you download my free Coffe in Buenos Aires map. I’m always adding new places to this map and you will find more coffees that are’t included in this post.

Best coffee in Buenos Aires:

1- All Saints Cafe

All Saints Café is my favorite specialty coffee shop. They obtain coffee from local producers around the world and the quality is excellent. With two locations in the city, it stands out for the hipster atmosphere decorated with phrases, paintings and music-related objects. There are details everywhere, they even have a custom watter bottle! My favorite: Avellana latte 😋.

Where?

  • Ciudad de la Paz 2300, Belgrano
  • Av. Corrientes 802, Microcentro

2- NEGRO. Cueva de Café

NEGRO is the place to go if you’re in Microcentro (Downtown Buenos Aires) and need to escape from the chaos of the city for a while. A real coffee cave (cueva) with 5 locations in the city where you can drink one of the best specialty coffees. They also organize the coolest happy hours. I used to go to NEGRO in Suipacha street every week with my friends so I love that location.

Where?

  • Suipacha 637
  • Marcelo T. de Alvear 790
  • Tucumán 1327
  • Tte. General. Perón 489
  • Córdoba 359

3- Coffee Town

Delicious coffe in one of the most tourist spots in Buenos Aires. The first shop of Coffee Town is located inside the famous San Telmo Market (which by the way is beautiful and I recommend to visit). They have coffee from all over the world, lots of varieties and roasting methods. They recently opened a location in Palermo.

Where?

  • Bolivar 976, Mercado de San Telmo
  • Jorge Luis Borges 1660

4- The Shelter Coffee

As you walk into The Shelter Coffee you will feel in another time. Located in the neighborhood of Retiro, in the middle of French style buildings, you travel to a corner of Europe for a while. The coffee is delicious. It’s a very small place so it gets crowded, but you always take-away.

Where?

  • Arroyo 940, Recoleta

5- LAB

A coffee lab in Palermo and Belgrano. LAB is a modern coffee shop offering different varieties of specialty coffee and also meals. The coffee is so delicious I’ve bought it several times to use it in my espresso machine at home. They also offer different types of coffee-related courses.

Where?

  • Humboldt 1542, Palermo.
  • Echeverria 1550, Belgrano.

6- Flat & White

A small café located in Recoleta. In the hustle and bustle of the city, it is the perfect place to take a break, enjoy some specialty coffee and recharge energy. Plus they have a lot of sweet options. My favorite: The coconut and dulce de leche alfajor 😋.

7- Kissaten Tostador

If you like unique places, you have to visit this little cafe located in the Retiro neighbourhood. It is a specialty coffee shop that roasts its own coffee. It is a place that is difficult to reach if you do not know it because it is located on the first floor, above a wine bar. With a minimalist Japanese aesthetic, it seems to me to be one of the best specialty cafes in Buenos Aires.

Where?

  • Arroyo 826, Floor 1

8- Cuervo

If you walk around Palermo you only have to follow the smell of coffee and find Cuervo’s window. Specialty coffee, books and an excellent atmosphere.

Where?

  • El Salvador 4580, Palermo
  • Costa Rica 5801, Palermo
  • Newbery 3898.

9- Surry Hills Coffee

Surry Hills Coffee has everything you need: delicious coffee, delicious Australian-inspired brunch and snack food options, and a very warm atmosphere. If you are going to have a snack, I recommend the almond croissant.

Where?

Jorge Luis Borges 1842

10 – Punto Café

A perfect option if, in addition to looking for good coffee, you want pastries of the best quality. Punto Café is a specialty café located in San Telmo and offers homemade pastries. Relaxed atmosphere, with good music and a great place to work or read.

Where?

Perú 602, San Telmo
