My stay at El Balcón Hotel in Cusco, Perú

Cusco is one of the must-see destinations in a trip to Peru. During my stay in this city, I stayed at El Balcón Hotel for 3 nights and in this post I’ll tell you more about this amazing hotel.

El Balcón Cusco Location

El Balcón is located in the heart of Cusco, about two and a half blocks away from Plaza Mayor (the main square in Cusco). It is an excellent location to explore the city on foot, take tours and vans to other places in the Sacred Valley.

From the hotel you can easily walk to several important points of Cusco such as: the Santa Ana viewpoint, the San Cristobal Plaza, Plaza Mayor, and Cusco Cathedral.

Bedrooms

El Balcón is located in what used to be a colonial house from 1630, so the details of colonial architecture can be seen in every space.

The rooms are arranged around a nice garden through which you can access the hotel’s reception and the hotel’s restaurant. The garden is super peaceful despite being in the center of Cusco.

I stayed at El Balcón with my boyfriend in one of the rooms on the first floor, which are connected by the balcony (el balcón). From there you have beautiful views not only of the garden, but also of the city of Cusco.

The rooms at El Balcón have a rustic style, where wood is the protagonist, along with Peruvian tapestries and details that make the spaces cozy and comfortable. The rooms are accessed through beautiful old doors closed with a padlock. No electronic card here, you really feel in a colonial house!

Our room was a double room with 2 beds overlooking the garden. We felt super comfortable.

The room was equipped with all the necessary things: ​​a table with complimentary water and fruit, a small closet hidden in an old window (I loved this detail) and several spaces to store your things. The room had no TV and this can be an important detail for many people. It didn’t affect us since the least we do when traveling is watching TV. Wifi is free in all rooms.

The bathroom had a colonial detail that I loved: a window in the ceiling. It was fully equipped: toilet, shower, sink, mirror, toiletries, towels, robes and hair dryer.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the hotel’s restaurant which is located in the garden. It is a beautiful place, with a wooden roof, natural light, stone details and a fireplace.

There is a wide variety of seasonal fruits available, as well as breads with homemade jams, different teas and coffee. In addition to this, the breakfast includes a choice of pancakes, french toast, omelette or poached egg. Everything is delicious, natural and you feel like having breakfast at home.

Restaurant

El Balcón also has its own restaurant that offers an extensive menu with different types of meats, pastas, soups and more. Everything is homemade and natural.

El Balcón is the sister hotel of El Albergue in Ollantaytambo. Many of the products used in the kitchen at El Balcón come from the garden at El Albergue so they are organic of great quality.

If you have dinner at the El Balcón restaurant, I suggest you try the brownie for dessert! It was one of the best I’ve ever tried. Also the ice cream is handmade.

El Balcón is a beautiful hotel, ideal for families, couples or single travelers who want to stay in the heart of Cusco but at the same time feel the tranquility of an authentic colonial house. I felt very comfortable at the hotel and it is definitely a place I recommend to anyone looking for accommodation in Cusco.
